What would you consider the actions/medications of/for a severe asthmatic?

How many times a day would a person have to use an inhaler for you to consider them a severe asthmatic?
What type of medications would you consider to be that of a severe asthmatic?

--

Just a question.

Answer 1:

Severe asthmatics normally require 3 types of medications:
1. Front Door meds such as inhaled broncho-dialators
2. Back Door meds such as coricosteroids which can also be inhaled
3. and sometime Side Door meds also known as Xanthines such as Theodur which is not widely used anymore. (FYI-Coffee is a xanthine)
You sound like you need a Pulmonary Function Test. Go to your doctor and request a Pulmonologist M.D. so they can correctly manage your asthma. Good Luck and don't play guessing games with Asthma.

Answer 2:

I'd have to tell you..... you should not be writing about your condition on these forums...you should be under a doctor's management (of your condition) and you should be asking him/her these questions. Your condition can be life threatening....so do not take asthma lightly

What is the average life span for a moderate to severe asthmatic ?

I was just wondering what is the average life span for a moderate to severe asthmatic ?

Answer 1:

I have never heard of people with asthma having shorter lives unless they have a severe attack that can't be helped. I think as long as you are able to keep it under control with medication and avoiding triggers your life span would be the same as that of any other person. I haven't seen any statistics or anything and I know there could always be complications leading to different results. You might try searching google to see if you can find any statistics that might answer your question a little better.

Answer 2:

24 years!

Answer 3:

I AGREE WITH SOFTBALLCHICKIE87 ON THIS QUESTION.

Answer 4:

If it's kept under control with all the right inhalers and stuff, I'd say life span's probably completely normal.
