What is the best second row placement for infant and toddler car seats when need both installed?
I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey as my car and need to install car seats for a 2 1/2 year old and an infant. Should I attach the infant carrier car seat in the left or right seat of the second row? Am I better off sliding the second row right side seat to the middle or leaving the seat all the way to the right side?
Answer 1:
I have my toddler on the passenger side and my baby on the driver side. There is not enough room for one in the middle. I like it this way because I put a mirror on the back headrest to see my baby while I am driving and that would be too hard if he were on the passenger side. So I can just turn to see my toddler and look in the rear view mirror to see my baby.Answer 2:
ideally you should put a child seat in the middle of the rear seat in a car. in a van you want the middle of the middle seat. The idea is to have as much space between the child and the sides of the car as possible so they are as far away from a front rear or side impact as possible. Unfortunately that only works if you only have one child. with the two kids I would keep them both in the centre row of the van and move the seats into the centre most position. so they are the furthest from the sides as possible.Answer 3:
When we were in that situation we put the infant seat in the middle facing backwards and the toddler seat on the passenger side. The seats were right next to each other but they say that is the safest placement for both of them together.Answer 4:
We have an Odyssey as well. We have twins and a 4 year old and the 4 year old sits in the back row. but the way I would do it is have your baby behind the passenger seat, it is more accessable and the 2.5 year old behind the driver.Answer 5:
The safest spot for any car seat is the middle seat in the back (duh). As long as both kids are in the back it shouldn't matter if it's on the left or right side.Answer 6:
Easy way is to put the toddler on the left seat and bring the right seat to the middle and put your infant there. Best way I can think of.What does 1st time parents would like 2 know about infant bathing?
Hi! I'm doing a project about infant bathing. I need 2 teach new parents on how to do infant bathing. So, I would like 2 know what parents-to be would like to know about infant bathing.
Thanks in advance.
Answer 1:
In general, how to do itHow often should you bathe your child Is too frequent bad?
Can you or can you not use adult soap? Whats the difference between infant and adult soap?
Also for newborns, there's the cord concern, so you should touch on that topic
there's alot more, but thas where doing your homework comes in
hollyy
Answer 2:
They should ALL know that you should NEVER turn your back on the child while he/she is bathing.Always tighten the bath knobs as tight as possible so the infant cannot turn the hot water on by him/herself.
In general, they would want to know what sorts of soap you should use on the infant.
What sort of temperature the water should be.
How long the child should stay within the bath.
Things like that.
=]
Answer 3:
how to have everything they need in arms reach and ready before you bath baby (i.e towels, nappies and clothes). having a partner around helps, like passing things.they must hold and support their baby at all times. esp their heads. unless they buy supports made of foam or fabric (i.e from mothercare)NEVER LEAVE BABY UNATTENDED. ignore the telephone and the door bell.
the water should never be cold or too hot, ideal temp is 36-38`c (you can buy bath therometers) always put cold in 1st. water should not be too deep ideal 4 inchs, infants can drown in only a couple of inchs
for newborns its best to top and tail until the umbilical stump has fallen off (as it needs to dry out)
sometimes washing babies hair 1st over the bath makes it easier.
make sure the room they bath baby in is warmer enough (when baby is naked and wet)
never bath baby when its hungry or over tired as it will upset baby
theres no need to bath baby everyday as they dont really get dirty and their skin has a tendency to dry out to much from being in water (top and tail between baths) untill there at least weaning
baby does not use adult stuff they have their own range (i.e johnsons)
dont pull the foreskin back on a newborn baby boy to clean as its still attached until their older
How early can an infant begin swimming lessons?
Hi Moms
My daughter is 4 months old right now. I am hoping to put her in swimming lessons this summer when she will be 6-7 months. I was wondering if thats too young for an infant to begin swimming? Aside from the swimming itself, what about the pool being a source of infections?
Thanks!
Answer 1:
I had my first daughter in "lessons" at 6 months and it was a waste of money. Basically these "lessons" are just to get the baby comfortable with the water. Even though the water was fairly warm, her lips were always blue by the time the lesson was over. I think you could do the same with your baby without PAYING for lessons. You take your baby in the water with you and sing songs, dance around, let her splash. You don't really need a swim teacher showing you how to do that. Hopefully the pool you are in uses the necessary amount of chlorine to rid potential harmful bacteria. I think you daughter is safe in that respect but just don't let her drink the water!Answer 2:
I enrolled my son when he was 16 months old. The really don't call it lessons it's just basically getting them use to the water, learning how to kick, blowing bubbles, etc. I highly recommend it as it was a good bonding time as well. My son loved it and we will be doing it again this year. As far as the infections most of the time, there is enough chlorine to kill any bacteria. Tip: bring a drink for after for both of you, as you would not believe how thirsty you will be.Answer 3:
Like Glenn T said I wouldn't start the lessons yet.♥The lessons are just so the babies get use to the water and splash around. I would wait til she was about 14months old that's when I started my oldest daughter and she loved it. We still go to swim classes and she still loves them.
Good luck
Answer 4:
The "lessons" they will be giving your child will just to get them used to the water. It will basically be wasting your money.
I was put into swimming lessons when I was 4-5.
I'd say around that age is minimal
Answer 5:
Why would you start swimming lessons early? Michael Phelps isn't that cool. You should wait untill she is two, then enroll her.Answer 6:
its not to young to get them use to the water.i would go for it!!!
What are the effects of classical music on an infant?
Does it make the infants smarter and talented than those who were not exposed to the music?
Does it affect a person's way of thinking?
Does it affect an infant's personality?
What are the effects of classical music to infants?
What are some performed studies about classical music?
Answer 1:
I read in a magazine that it is supposed to make them 30% smarter. (I figure with him being his fathers son he will need all the help he can get! lol) So I have been putting headphones on my tummy and letting him listen to it, but the last month or so he throws a tizzy fit when I do. So I don't know if I should still let him listen to it anymore either. It will be interesting to see what people have to say. Now that I think about it I'm going to go see if I can find something on it....I'll let you know.Fetal learning: a prospective randomized controlled study
D. K. James*, C. J. Spencer* and B. W. Stepsis*
ABSTRACT
ObjectivesTo examine whether prenatal exposure to a music stimulus alters fetal behavior and whether this continues into the newborn period.
Subjects and methodsA prospective randomized control trial was conducted using an exposure learning model in 20 normal term pregnancies. Music was played to ten fetuses via a headphone on the maternal abdomen. Ten controls had the headphone without sound. All fetal studies took place within 72 h prior to elective delivery. All 20 newborns were exposed to the same music on days 3–5. Computerized assessment of fetal heart rate and activity was documented and neonatal behavioral states were recorded. Nonparametric statistical analysis was used.
ResultsFor the first hour of study, exposed fetuses had higher mean heart rates (FHR) and spent more time exhibiting high FHR variation compared to unexposed fetuses, but neither of these differences was statistically significant. However, by the fourth hour the exposed fetuses not only demonstrated these two features but also exhibited more state transitions (P = 0.01) and higher FHR variation (P = 0.04) compared to unexposed fetuses. These effects were carried over into the neonatal period with prenatally exposed newborns manifesting more state transitions (P = 0.01) and spending a higher proportion of time in awake states (P = 0.05) when exposed to the same music stimulus.
ConclusionPrenatal music exposure alters the fetal behavioral state and is carried forward to the newborn period. This suggests that a simple form of fetal programming or learning has occurred.
Answer 2:
apparently none of the supposed positive effects have ever been proved, i mean in serious studiesstill, if you make a baby listen to some Mozart, he or she will clearly look more relaxed than if you have them listen to some violent rap.
Answer 3:
It turns them into minature Algores....or is that alligators?Answer 4:
It will make them more calm and relaxed. They say that they will grow to have an appreciation to music and will be better at maths. What I know for sure though is that if you teach a child how to read music at the same time you teach them to read a language, they will be better at math, they will have a higher level of intellect.Answer 5:
They say it makes them smarter, but I've never cared for classical. I always played rock, metal, and rap. My 4th grader tests out at a 10th grade level. My other 2 test out high, but only 1 grade above their level. All 3 were exposed to the same music.I guess it just depends on the kid
Answer 6:
i don't know about studies en mass about classical music and infants but i did play various classical music pieces for children when my son was littlei bought a CD with 'peter and the wolf' (Prokofiev) and 'carnival of the animals' by sans saint for just a few pounds.
he much preferred the carnival one because we could practice doing all the different animals together right from the age of 2.
he is now 8 and considered very bright - so on a sample of one - it did follow that playing classical music to him - he was bright later on
but if it hadn't been the case? well no harm done either
Answer 7:
It is just soothing to them. That is all.Answer 8:
I don't know about the long term effects, but I do know that it does soothe them. Just don't play any of those clashing banging songs such as the 1812 Overture.Answer 9:
Because music is connected so closely with language, music helps in developing language skills latter on. Not only that, but music is older and more basic than any verbal languge, cutting beyond auditory symbols, stright to emotions and pure cognitive relationships.Classical music, of course developes, and if played repeatedly to an infant, the infant will subconciously pickup on these musical developements (ie. variations, etc...). This will wire their young minds permeniently for some amazing abilityies in the future, from problem solving, puzzle working, to higher creativity, and beyond.
I need no scientific studies to show me these things, I have already proven them. They are real effects, I have studied these myself first hand.
Classical music is the greatest achivment of mankind.
